Dave's new 7 footer

Big Dave Jackson from Coolum ordered his second wooden Hydro Simmons from me.
This one is 7ft x 23" x 2 7/8"  @ 60 Litres.

I used a heavier EPS foam and the deck is 5mm and the bottom is 4mm thick as Dave is a big guy at
6ft 7" and 130kg.

Old School 7ft 4" for Mick

Mick had been enjoying riding an old school board that he had been borrowing. Instead of copying it for him , I took the essence of the design and used that as inspiration for his new board.Rolled hull entry flat rocker to a tri plane hull with a slight concave in the middle and soft V through the tail.

8oz Volan bottom and 10" box with drill through for leash loop , old school.
8oz Volan with a 3/4 deck patch for a bit of weight.
This one was glassed by Brian Punch.

Another 7ft Hydro Simmons.

All ready to have the rails hand shaped. FCS Fusion boxes in for the first time.
This one is for Dave Jackson from Coolum Beach 7ft x 23" x 2 7/8" @ 60 Lt.

Roughing out the rails with the hand plane, before getting stuck in with the sand paper.
Rounding out the rails starts to bring her to life. Always a good feeling.
Fine tuning the rails and cleaning things up.

9ft square nose Log

7ft Hydro Simmons for Bevan

Just finished this 7ft x 23" x 2 5/8" @ 54 Lt  -  VVH EPS foam core with 5mm deck skin and 4mm bottom skin for plenty of strength and durability as Bevan is tall and about 95kg.
7 footer with 2 x 5ft 6" siblings @ 22" and 19" wide

Some comments from Bevan...
"A few screaming rights at burleigh this morning. Got a few gems where I set the rail early and raced the lip through the inside section. Also got pitched a few times when I got caught behind, had trouble surfing the critical part of the wave so got to try and get more weight on the tail.

I get alot of questions on the 7’. This is not the board to have if you are trying to fly under the radar. What kind of wood is it? What’s the construction? Who shaped it? What does it surf like? How does that shape go? Mostly get stares at the board as I rip by.
It does fly though in conditions like yesterday, not many waves and so quite competitive scratching into the sets which were getting spaced further apart.

I am a free ad for you, 5 people in and out of the water admiring your work."

Regards

Bevan

 Coming up nicely
The 7ft Hydro Simmons getting a rail job.
 Lots of hand planing
Sand paper brings it all together and to life.
Looking good. The lights sure help in the rail shaping and fine tuning.
Bevan wanted the nose pulled in a little more on this one
