Hydro V Fish for Takeshi Sagisaka

It is always good when all the parts of a project come together and the customer gets a board that they have put a lot of thought into. It is very satisfying to be  apart of the process and have a happy passionate customer. It makes it all worth while.

Allways good to have a happy customer and Taki wanted something special and was prepared to wait for these custom fins by master craftsman John Devereux. The glass job and board build by Peter "Mo" Moschogianis as always a piece of art. Custom 5ft 10" x 22" Hydro V Fish.

Sharing the knowledge

I spent Tuesday afternoon in the garage with Dana from Wood Surf Co bagging this 5ft 3" fish and sharing my building method with him. He was pretty pleased at how simple and easy it was compared to framed building. I think he is converted. It just makes sense when you see it happen.

Lord Howe Island

So lucky to have just spent the last week on Lord Howe Island some 600km off the coast of Australia.About 10km long and 2km wide with a protective reef and lagoon on the western side and sand beaches between rocky headlands on the east. Mt Gower to the south stands at 875m tall with Ball’s Pyramid about 23km to the south standing 550m tall out of the ocean. Lord Howe is home to the most southerly coral and is just such a magic place.

400 locals and only 400 tourists allowed at any one time.It is part of NSW but geographically looks a lot more like some part of New Zealand to me.Anyway we had such a relaxing time and another memorable trip to this little known slice of paradise.

A new type of glide

I just spent 2 days riding this Harley Breakout as a present from good mate Paul for last years 60th birthday. I haven't been on a bike for a while now, but it all comes back pretty quick and needed to to handle this machine. 1700cc of grunt and weighing in at 330kg it is a beast of a bike with power to burn.

The body board

A friend wanted a body board for his wife's birthday. The blank was glued up from some EPS I had and added the 5mm around the sides. Here I have added a piece of fibreglass fly wire mesh to add some strength under the 3mm top skin. It will cradle the timber if it takes a hit. I have found it adds a lot of strenght with little added weight. It is light strong and not expensive.

Top and bottom on and in the bag for 2 hours as the glue cures

Once out of the bag and cleaned up the edges, it is time to add the nose and tail blocks.

5mm rail bands are added

All shaped and sanded up with the logo stamped on ready for a couple of coats of varnish.
All finished and Jackie wiped up a great little board cover as well.
