 All the tools i need to laminate and bend the rail bands onto the board. The old steam iron helps out here.

 My little hand plane got quite a workout, no wonder it gets hot.

All cleaned up with the rail bands foiled to the deck and bottom. Bag it up and off to the shaping bay.

 Small hand plane and some emery cloth and sandpaper.

The emery cloth is great for taking the planed rails and smoothing it all out really quickly and simply as you can get some weight into it. The cloth backing and the grit lasts way longer than any sand paper.

Lanolin finish only for this one from Lanotec

The logo is a rubber stamp and solvent ink StazOn brand from the local stamping / craft shop.

The oil brings out the colour of the Paulownia.

Still in good nic after a couple of years

 

I built this unglassed board for Peter Redmond in New Zealand a couple of years ago. He loves the lanolin finish and has just ordered a longboard for him to take back to the UK in a few months time. It still looks like new after many a surf. Not having to wax it certainly helps.

New Truck

Great to have a new truck after the old one had put in 467,000k's which is not bad for a 3 litre V6 petrol. So have gone with the newer model and stuck with the petrol 4 litre V6. Great truck and a bit more size and comfort.

Paul Jensen and Genki on the Mini Simmons

I designed a larger Mini Simmons for Paul to build a year or two ago and he finally built it and enjoys the ride. While Genki from Japan has been out vistiong him over the Christmas break he has been enjoying the ride as well and plans to build one whan he gets home. Genki and his family stayed with Jackie and I last Christmas. Nice guy  and a mate of Nobby's.

 Not that warm surfing in the Pacific North West this time of year. Actually I don't think it is every very warm.

 They get some nice ocean swells here when the conditions are right. I think Paul lives about and hour or so from here.

 I tested my glasser out with this one, Mo is so used to doing nice cut laps and clean work this really went against the grain for him. It came out great and is nice to do something different.

 Deeper swallow and Rasta keel fins for this one

 Tail is pulled in a little as well.

Small hand plane with wax on the bottom and a bit of elbow grease and just get into it cleaning up the excess rail timber.
