In the shaping bay

I just had Peter Mo install the fin boxes in these boards for me and now they are ready to be finished.I have just tidied up the laminated rails and now they need to be shaped.

The bar bell weight is great for holding the board ibn place so that you have both hands free to control the hand plane
First up I foil the rails to the board shape so that it is nice and even all round
Then I start on the bottom shape of the rail as this is the important area at the end of the day
Set it on rail and bring the top down to foil it all out slowly.
The wall lights help cast a shadow so that you can see the flow of you lines. This is the first bevel in bringing the rail down.
Some work on the nose to blend it all in
Starting to come together. This is a 5ft 2" x 22"Hydro Simmons , the one on the left is a 5ft 1" x 22 1/2" Simmons and a 5ft 6" x 19" Hydro Simmons

A couple of new boards on the go.

5ft 6" x 19" Hydro Simmons underway and ready for bagging
5ft 1" Simmons for Mitch Waters from Manly
Mitch's board being road tested by Billy
5ft 8" Hydro Simmons for Tim Jones from Woolongong
 Bagging Tim's board
You can pull some reasonable curves as shown here with 3mm Paulownia
5ft 6" in the bag
5ft 6" x 19" ready to be cleaned up and start laminating the rails
Starting with the first rail bands on all 3 boards this morning. 5mm thick strips of Paulownia that bend really well and make a nice neat job is always good to see. Paulownia has a nice long, clean grain and is great to work with.

It is now a matter of building out the rail laminates to the desired width and then a dd the nose a tail blocks as required.
